Ergonomics = Comfort + Ease + Efficiency
Ergonomics = Comfort + Ease + Efficiency
Employees spend most of their day at work. The comfort of a workplace and the ergonomics of office furniture are extremely important for the comfort and efficiency of employees.
With digitalization and the development of technologies, the daily workflows and working methods of employees are also changing. The business world is now shifting towards a way of working that requires more collaboration, continuous communication between teams, and the ability to adapt quickly to change. Besides, employee expectations are also changing day by day.
Studies show that more than three-quarters of employees are between the ages of 18-34, which means a business world where employees with different expectations will now have more to say.
Considering all this, it is necessary to design comfortable offices where employees can feel as relaxed as they do at home and will spend long hours. Therefore, ergonomics is essential for employee health and productivity.
So, what is ergonomics? The dictionary definition of ergonomics is as follows: 'the scientific study of people and their working conditions, especially done in order to improve effectiveness'. In other words, ergonomics involves natural and technical research and development studies aimed at examining the physical and psychological characteristics of humans and ensuring their compatibility with the machines and environment used.
All of these definitions emphasize the importance of building a suitable working environment for the employees to increase their productivity, such as the selection of all types of office furniture like office desks or office chairs. Designing workplace equipment and office furniture without considering ergonomic factors, and environmental conditions not suitable for employees' needs lead to unrest, dissatisfaction, and a decrease in work efficiency. Ergonomics, which aims to increase the harmony of employees with the workplace, also increases efficiency, work quality, and motivation.
Considering that employees spend most of their days at the workplace, we can say that it is only possible to work efficiently in an ergonomic work environment.
In conclusion, the time has come to say goodbye to the traditional 9-5 desk workers we are used to and move away from classic office design approaches for the health of the new generation employees. It must be kept in mind that the goal in ergonomics is to adapt the job to the employee, not the other way around.
